Please read about our department. Safe transportation is a team effort. Being informed and understanding the rules will help provide your child with safe transportation and develop a positive relationship with your driver.
The mission of the Transportation Department is to maintain a program:
For transporting children to and from school and all
related activities safely.
For maintaining a transportation environment that is
consistent with and supportive of Marion County Schools
For providing transportation as economically and efficiently
The Transportation Department of Marion County Schools has 101 school buses that travel 80 routes to deliver over 7500 children to facilities in Marion County.
We use Zonar for GPS bus tracking and Gate Keeper and for video recordings for student, aide, and driver safety.
Our drivers and aides receive ongoing professional growth training in areas of student management, evacuations, loading and unloading, and federal and state law.
New bus routes or extensions may be established only upon request of the family and recommendation of the Transportation Supervisor.
Bus routes shall be eliminated upon recommendation of the Transportation Supervisor.
School bus stops shall be established where most feasible for the safe loading and unloading of pupils, as determined by the Transportation Supervisor.
For the safety of PK – K students: the transportation department bus driver will not drop off these students at their bus stop without a parent, guardian or established responsible adult at the door of the bus. In cases where the parent, guardian or established responsible adult are not present the child will be taken back to the school and the parent, guardian, or established responsible adult can make arrangements to have the child picked up. If this situation continues to persist, a conference will be held to determine a resolution.
