The world today has become a very stressful place for individuals and middle school students are being impacted greatly by that stress as well. Mrs. Pavlic has been going into 7th and 8th grade classrooms to provide guidance lessons on stress management.

Due to the number of positive COVID cases recently in fifth grade at East Fairmont Middle, the decision has been made in conjunction with the Marion County Health Department and the Superintendent to quarantine the entire fifth grade class through Sunday, October 24th. If your fifth grader is symptom free, they may return to school on Monday, October 25th. If the child should develop symptoms, please have them tested and notify the school. Teachers will be meeting early tomorrow morning to discuss how classwork will be handled for the time of quarantine. Please have your child check google classrooms and livegrades for messages about work. Thank you and if you have any questions feel free to call the school during regular hours.

Underwood Smith Scholarship opportunity for graduating seniors who are interested in becoming a WV teacher: The current senior class can apply by December 31, 2021, for this scholarship, which could offer them $10,000.00 a year for four years while working to become to teacher.

Reminder: East Fairmont Middle policy is that personal communication devices are to be turned off and placed in the locker during the day. Cell phones and social media have become a huge problem for our middle schoolers. Many students have taken to carrying their cell phones in their pockets. This violates policy and teachers were told today that if they SEE a cell phone during the day, it is to be taken and sent to the office. Students have been caught accessing inappropriate content and messages and cell phones as a whole have been distracting from the educational purposes of the school day. Parents please also review with your children appropriate social media behavior.

The MC BOE recently accepted a resolution to recognize MCS as a Purple Heart District. Many WVs are veterans of the Unites States armed forces and have families with children attending school. During
times when these families relocate to meet duty requirements or
experience the absence of a loved one while on deployment, MCS
has an opportunity to meet the unique needs of these children.
The Purple Star Award is designed to recognize schools that create
a military-friendly environment and make a special commitment to
supporting the resilience of military connected children. For more information, contact L.D. Skarzinski, Administrative Assistant of C&I, at lskarzin@k12.wv.us or visit https://wvde.us/commonground/.
