Attention Graduating MCS Seniors: Fairmont State has annual scholarships for STEM majors. West Virginia is filled with STEM talent. This program focuses on increasing enrollment, retention, and graduation of academically talented, low-income STEM students through special activities, scholarships, cohort building, networking, and curricular and co-curricular support. If you’re selected as an S-STEM Program Scholar, you’ll benefit from a student-driven support system and receive personal attention from peer and faculty mentors. Scholarship amounts will vary from student to student, and will be based on unmet financial need, but the average scholarship amount will be $6250.00 annually. Scholars who maintain satisfactory progress toward any of the STEM degrees listed on the reverse will be eligible to keep their scholarships for four years. The total average scholarship for four years is around $25,000. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS • You must be an incoming Freshman at FSU. • You must have a 2.75 GPA or better. • You must demonstrate your financial need (using your FAFSA). • You will complete two assessments online (more information on these assessments will be sent to you when you indicate your interest in the program). • You will be asked to complete a Field Experience Day on Fairmont State’s campus. This event will be in person (or virtual based on current Fairmont State COVID-19 protocols). More information will be sent when you indicate your interest in the program.

Congratulations to the Marion County bands that were among the over 2,000 musicians that participated in the Region 10 Band Festival this week. It is one of 10 Regional Band Festivals throughout the State of West Virginia, which are held each year and sponsored by the Secondary Schools Activities Commission in conjunction with the West Virginia Bandmasters Association. The rating represents the overall average score given by the three judges that reviewed each band's performance of two pieces performed. East Fairmont High School and West Fairmont Middle 7th and 8th grades were among the bands receiving superior ratings. See all results below. Ratings of Comments Only indicate that bands requested only comments and not a rating. There were 17 high school and 28 middle schools performing this week. The five counties representing Region 10 are Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Taylor and Harrison.

We think our West Virginia kids are incredible! For the past two years, kids from all over the state have inspired us with their inherent spirit, resilience, kindness, drive, and talent—which is how we have decided to define “incredible.” Do you know a kid in West Virginia who meets this definition? We want to hear about them! From March 28 to April 17, 2022, WV Living magazine and WVU Medicine Children’s will be accepting nominations for Incredible Kids. Then, from April 18 to 24, readers will vote on their favorite kids, and the top contenders will be featured in the Summer issue of WV Living. And because all of these kids are winners, their profiles will be listed in print and live on our website for all to see and celebrate, and we’ll send them all special swag bags just for being so awesome.
