Ready, Read, Write, West Virginia is an initiative created by the West Virginia Department of Education to increase literacy proficiency for all students. It is rooted in the science of reading and based on the belief that all students can learn to read proficiently with effective reading instruction.
The Science of Reading is the body of research over the last several decades that proves how the brain learns to become a proficient reader and writer. This research demonstrates the best methods to deliver rich, high-quality instruction so that all students can learn to read.
The ability to read is the gateway to learning and future success. Those who are unable to read or cannot read at adequate levels will struggle to learn. Reading impacts all areas of the educational process and eventually will affect the ability to succeed in the classroom, in the workplace, and in life.
