For joining the elite ranks of only 3 percent of the nation’s teachers to earn the distinction of National Board Certified Teacher, we salute Celi Oliveto. The North Marion teacher was honored tonight at the Cultural Center. Oliveto is one of only 35 WV NBCTs in 2021.

Showcasing the great work of Marion County’s teachers in reading as Grades K-2 teachers from four counties visited classrooms in Marion County to see best practices and the hard work of our teachers to recover instruction in reading.

Earth Day is nearly a month away on April 22. Doing their part for the Earth and their school, students and Mr. Denham at Barnes Learning Center load up a truck with newspapers to be recycled today.

The Judging Committee for West Virginia Young Writers Contest 2022 selected Anna Gribben’s entry, “Time,” as second place at the grade 9-10 level of the statewide contest. Gribbens and her teacher, Ms. Ciarolla, will be recognized at the celebration of Young Writers Day May 13, 2022, University of Charleston.

Who’s a good sport for the love of Pi Day, 3.14, and raising student’s awareness of math skills? Principal Haught at West Fairmont Middle. All last week she asked a geometry Jeopardy question to each grade level on the morning announcements. The students with the correct answers were entered into a drawing to “Pi the Principal.”

Did you know one of the best ways to demonstrate Pi is by dividing a pie's circumference by its diameter? On 3.14 this team of cooks at Watson is joint in on Pi Day fun today, March 14.

Pie for Pi Day! A student at Monongah Elementary approves of the cooks’ special touch to make Pi Day special. It’s “an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about math, and eat pie.”

West Fairmont Middle School cooks are whipping up pie support for math fun on Pi Day. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in math to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159.

The date written numerically as 3/14 matches the first three digits of the never-ending number: 3.14, which is known as Pi. The kitchen at Barnes Learning Center is cooking up connections with pie today.

Ava McMullen, Fairmont Senior freshman, participated in Poetry Out Loud this past weekend in Charleston. Amanda Walker Johnson, English teacher, “Ava did a great job. She memorized three poems, recited them with a dramatic flair that showed she truly understood the pieces.”

Buster the Bus is Back! He’s visiting students in grades K-1 at Rivesville Elementary School today to spread the love of reading and spread awareness of Bus Safety Transportation Month. Sandy Sarsfield, bus aide, and Dee Gump, bus operator, are spreading smiles with Buster.

3.14 is Pi Day and the cooks at Fairmont Senior are feeding our love of math with pie! March 14 to “celebrate the mathematical constant 3.14 as mathematicians, scientists, and math lovers around the world celebrate Pi Day, a commemoration of the mathematical sign pi.”

Kindergarten teachers from Rivesville visited Heart Junction collaborative childcare as part of our county transition process.
