Spend a large fraction of your life having fun learning! East Dale’s Family Night, "4C Stress Free Family Night,” encouraged families to rotate through 4 learning stations – 2 mathematics and 2 reading. The focus of the math stations was to give learners the opportunity to connect fractions with real-life applications while the reading stations illuminated strategies that would support questioning and vocabulary skills.

Curious to see what today brings in a MCS classroom? East Dale’s Pre-K teachers hosted Family Night, "Pre-K is Curious,” where families rotate to STEAM Stations to support that print has meaning and can be used in different ways. Each learner received Stay Curious and Keep Exploring to continue curiosity at home.

Ms. Fegeley, art teacher at Barrackville, shares her students’ talents and her ability to cultivate it, at the Marion County Board of Education offices. This spring, the artwork of students from throughout the county will be shared at the annual Literacy and Multicultural Fair.

West Fairmont Middle School and Marion County Schools hosted representatives of the West Virginia Department of Education and WV Department of Homeland Security today to review the first phase of facial recognition software in the State, piloted by Rank One.

The Uncommon Man Club of Blackshere hosted Mr. Saunders today to talk about the topic of dependability. All 3rd and 4th grade boys received the presentation and then the speaker has lunch with 11 club members afterwards.

Where in the world is the Jayenne Jacquar? Mattie, the mammal and gentle dog, is looking for a new friend today and dropped by to see students and staff at Jayenne Elementary. The students completed a unit on mammals, and Mattie helped them celebrate after the test.

Fairmont Senior’s Madrigal Chamber Singers, under the direction of Mr. Greg Devito, brought a taste of Marion County Schools students’ rich talents in the arts and academic excellence for the whole student today as they sang before all WV superintendents. The rich history of the ensemble goes back to the 1970's and turned into the ensemble they are today in 1985. Over the years, the group has performed both nationally and internationally, winning multple awards and festivals.

This morning Marion County Schools nurses received Stop the Bleed training, by Lloyd White, Director of the Marion County Health Department.

While staff are in meetings and training this morning during the 2 hour delay of students, Mannington Middle hosted WVU Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to talk about bias and inclusion for working with students and staff.

Monongah Elementary students will not report to school tomorrow, January, 25, 2023 due to water issues. Staff will report.

Monongah Middle staff and students prepare to be first WV school to visit Junior Achievement Biztown. Students choose and learn about their occupations in next few weeks for a day-long visit to a student-run simulated town with storefronts, radio station, and medical facilities.

Thank you to Cherie Earls, RN for Marion County Schools and recipient of a Novelis, Inc. grant that provides first aid kits for every nurse/school for emergency response.

Monongah Elementary will release at 12:30 today, January 24, 2023, due to water issues.

Safety and security is one of our top priorities. North Marion is the first of three high schools to deploy metal detectors at tonight’s game vs. RCB. The detectors were purchased in a partnership with County Commission and Homeland Security to use during school day and events.

Ms. Ramsey and Ms. Vangilder’s Kindergarten classrooms at Barrackville were engaged in learning stations today, small groups that students rotate through to work on the same skill with different approaches.

Reminder: Wednesday, January 25, 2023 is a 2-hour delay schedule for students in Marion County Schools so that staff may attend professional meetings and trainings.
