To support school-based professional development needs and design for schools, the Marion County Professional Development Council recently awarded $26,000 in Grant Funding to the following individuals/schools: -1000.00 Grant to Nan Murray White Hall Elementary for Data Mining: Now What? Proceeding from Data to Action -5000.00 Grant to East Dale Elementary for From the Fishbowl to the School. -5000.00 Grant to Fairmont Senior High School for their English Department PLC: Improving Writing Instruction and Assessment -5000.00 grant to Rivesville Elementary Middle School for Understanding Rigor and Relevance -5000.00 grant to East Fairmont Middle School for Increasing Reading and Math by providing Differentiation and Coopertive Learning 5000.00 grant to White Hall Elementary for PAWS to Lead: Teaching Students Leadership for Empowerment and Life Skills Congratulations to these schools and their curriculum teams! These funds will support and build from within to meet the needs of our students.

The Fairmont Senior and North Marion robotics team prepare for a day of competition against other high school teams at the robotics competition, hosted by North Marion High School, at the Marion County National Guard Armory.

Hosting the county’s first robotics competition and building a better tomorrow, the North Marion High School Robotics Team is designing and building robots to assess how they stand up against other designs from other high school teams today.

The West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) is accepting applications from current high school sophomores to attend the 2022 session to be held June 26 - July 16, 2022, at Marshall University. The GSA is a three-week residential program providing individual and in-depth group instruction in the arts for current high school sophomores living in and attending school in West Virginia. Artistic areas addressed are acting, creative writing, dance, instrumental music, studio art and vocal music. Skilled artists and teachers will work with students who demonstrate interest in those areas. In addition, the GSA attempts to broaden the students’ understanding of the arts through interdisciplinary courses focusing on common elements in the arts disciplines. GSA is provided by the State of West Virginia at no cost to the students or their families.
