Marion County Schools celebrates February as Black History Month, which is dedicated throughout the nation to honor the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history.

Due to continued water issues in the Community of Fairview, Fairview Elementary and Middle schools are closed on Feb. 2, 2022.

Approximately 90 5th through 8th graders in Marion County Schools are champion spellers representing their schools at the MCS Spelling Bee tonight. Named after the productivity that occurs in a bee hive, the Spelling Bee reminds us each year that we are moving forward. Tonight, our students give us not only a showcase of their talents and hard work but they also lend another reminder -- one that has continued since the early 1800s in America -- that we are resilient, hardworking, committed, and proud to promote the good in all of our students and their "pursuit of excellence.”

In one of America’s longest traditions, dating back to the 1800s, the elite spellers of Marion County Schools will be showcased tonight for the Marion County Spelling Bee at East Fairmont High School, 6 PM.

The Education Alliance, in partnership with West Virginia GEARUP, is excited to offer free, 1-hour Virtual College Visits for high school students (February) and middle school students (April). Having symptoms of COVID-19? The Marion County Health Department is offering walk in COVID 19 testing at its Locust Avenue satellite location, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM. The testing on the campus of North Marion High School is Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 11 AM.

Have you heard of the Cheat Mountain Salamander? Congratulations for Art Teacher Ms. Cress, Fairview students in grades K-8, and the Fairview Community! They are recipients of a WV Department of Arts, Culture, and History and National Endowment for the Arts grant to complete a Rural Youth Engagement Public Art mural project that will feature rare, threatened, and endangered species of WV. The project involves a local guest artist, recycled bottle caps collected since 2018 by the community, families, and students, and the engagement of hundreds of community members. Students will be encouraged to be inquisitive and research while applying math, writing, speaking, science, and social emotional skills in a learning environment stimulated by art to build confidence, fun, and awareness of conservation and ecological awareness, notes Ms. Cress. The final product, an 8-foot by 12-foot mural will travel to local outdoor activities before permanent installation on the campus of Fairview Middle School. The students will design and oversee the future mural from beginning to installation.
