What are you doing tonight? It’s Week 3 of high school football season. Fairmont Senior and North Marion kick off tonight right here in Marion County at 7 PM at East-West Stadium. North Marion enters 1-0 and Fairmont Senior is 1-1 on the season. #MCSgetbackinthegame

In collaboration with the MC Health Department, MCS is closing a Kindergarten classroom at East Dale Elementary School through September 13. These K students will return on September 14. There are 5 positive cases as verified through contact tracing. This closure is for 10 days after the initial exposure. Families who have been impacted are being notified by MCS.

Congratulations to Hannah McIntire, 10th grader at NMHS, who is the latest recipient of a $100,000 scholarship to a WV higher ed institution. This is part of Gov. Justice’s “Do it for BabyDog” sweepstakes. Hannah’s mother is one of MCS’s own as a teacher. #MCSgetbackinthegame

Do it for Babydog: Round 2: Online registration is open for the sweepstakes. Weekly, 5 vaccinated WV students, 12-25, win a full 4-year scholarship – including room and board, tuition, and books – to any public college or university in WV. All 18 older who have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine can register for an opportunity to win additional prizes, including sports cars, free gas for 10 years, a dream wedding, season ticket packages to WVU and Marshall games, more!

MCS Child Nutrition Office has received word that its application as a countywide Community Eligibility Program has been approved for the 2021-22 school year. All students in MCS have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch at school at no cost through CEP. The CEP was enacted as a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and provides universal meal service to children in high-poverty areas. What does this mean for students? If benefits become available again this year through the Pandemic EBT, ALL MCS families now qualify for these benefits. Marion County is an equal opportunity provider.

Like businesses across the nation, the MCS Child Nutrition Dept. has been experiencing some outs and shortages from our suppliers. MCS will continue to substitute products as possible from our suppliers. If we have to change menus, we work diligently to try to give plenty of notice to students and families. Updates are sent through your child’s school as necessary. We appreciate your patience, grace, and understanding.

Is there anything more beautiful than sound of play? Blackshere Elementary knows that sound. A once overgrown, out of control garden is a beautiful PreK playground. MCS Maintenance prepared site. Theresa Michael got a Bowers grant 2 years in a row for ground cover and fencing.

The students of North Marion were recognized today by Secretary of State Mac Warner for being 1 of fewer than 10 high schools in the state to secure a 100% rate for eligible voters as organized by former senior Mackenzie Reiner in 19-20. Live historian Jennings Randolph visited.

September is National Voter Registration Month. 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the passage of the 26th Amendment, reducing voting age from 21 to 18. Today, WV Secretary of State Warner visits NMHS because it had the highest number of students registered to vote last year in MC.

Celebrate Freedom Week educates students about the sacrifices made for freedom in the founding of this country and the values on which this country was founded (WV State Code §18-2-9 ). In social studies classrooms, students will be learning of the Declaration of Independence, Emancipation Proclamation, and Constitution of the United States with an emphasis on the Bill of Rights. This includes the environments and the study of historical documents that inspired the founding fathers for the purposes of safeguarding our Constitutional republic.

On the evening of September 3, WVDE released updated guidance related to contact tracing and quarantines in WV schools. In collaboration with the MC Health Department, Marion County Schools puts the following into effect as of 5 PM Friday, Sept. 3: Students and staff in a county under a mask mandate will no longer need to quarantine EXCEPT if unmasked and the exposure to a positive was in a high risk, unmasked area such as a cafeteria or extracurricular. #MCSgetbackinthegame
