Marion County Parents: it's back to school time and as you know that requires immunizations set forth by the West Virginia Department of Education for students entering seventh and twelve grade. Immunizations are required to attend school on the first day of school, August 21, 2023. In an effort to assist families, Marion County Schools is collaborating with the Marion County Health Department. Per the WVDE, students in 7th and 12th grade who do not have updated immunizations may not attend school. The Marion County Health Department will be offering free onsite vaccinations clinics throughout the county for the next month. If the parent/legal guardian is not present, the child must have signed written permission stating vaccination administration is okay. The dates are as follows: Mannington Middle - 8/1/23 Fairview Middle - 8/3/23 Monongah Middle - 8/8/23 Rivesville - 8/10/23 Barrackville - 8/15/23 NMHS - 8/17/23 All clinics will be from 10AM-2PM *Please remember to bring insurance information if you have insurance. Congratulations to two of Marion County Schools finest, Sandra Cress (Fairview Middle Art) and Margie Suder (Middle School STEAM), for earning an innovation grant from The WVPEC and Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Only 23 unique projects were selected among 198 applicants.

It's hot, hot, hot at Barnes Learning Center today as Anderson Excavating is completing a paving project, paid for by the school's Capital Improvements funds of the MCS Levy.

The West Virginia Department of Education has developed two websites for the purpose of increasing the number of children throughout the state who are proficient in reading and mathematics. Each of these websites contains information, strategies, and resources for parents to use with their children. MCS Families: Students entering 7th & 12th grades for 2023-24 are required to have the Tdap & meningitis vaccines to return on the first day of school or to participate in summer practices/activities. Students may not attend school without proper verification of vaccines. PreK, K, 2nd, 7th, and 12th grades are required to show proof of Health and Dental exams. Please send documents to your child’s school as soon as possible. ALSO, state law requires that any student who has Emergency Medications ordered must have the medication administration form AND the medication available at school or the student may not attend school. Ensure these are given to the school nurse.

What an honor to meet with Fairmont Senior High School student leader and HOBY Ava McMullen today and hear of her non-profit idea for books, ways to support students from the student perspective, and her pride in Fairmont Senior High School student body, teachers, and staff. 💙

Tools for the Future: Explore the Unknown! Summer SOLE program at Monongah Middle School kicked off each day with the "Morning Meeting" where the theme of the day was announced including Circle of Control, decision making skills, goal setting. Growth Mindset, and Mindfulness. While wrapping up the project gram, students conducted labs exploring rocks and minerals along with a scavenger hunt where they identified minerals based on their properties. They also engineered their own hot air balloons, created their own comic strips to explain the scientific method and designed and built a small scale building.

Marion County Schools thanks Watson and Rivesville staff, students, and families as they wrapped Summer SOLE programs today with picnics for all. It takes a strong team and we've got them!

🚨 Reminder: We welcome our students in grades 1-12 back on August 21, 2023.

Today at Monongah Middle, Summer Sole middle school students welcomed WVU STEAM TAC. Students constructed and tested catapults. After initial testing and necessary adjustments, groups performed several additional test launches with multiple data points collected each time. Students were provided direct instruction to calculate then analyze the catapult launch data.
