On Thursday, March 14, 2024, the Marion County Board of Education held a Personnel Workshop to review the current state of personnel in Marion County Schools, trends in student enrollment, and other factors that impact the budget of 2024-25. The special meeting was available through livestream on Marion County Schools website and Facebook as well. As part of this presentation, an overview of proposed reductions at all levels of the school system was provided. The plan highlights redistribution and restructuring of current staff to meet the trend of declining student enrollment, which is directly tied to state aid for personnel in county school systems. On September 11, 2023, the Marion County Board of Education established the following goal for the Superintendent: Make recommendation to the board of education for a decrease in the number of personnel over the state aid formula, including unfunded positions after the ESSERF covid funding (28 professional and 11 service) expires June 2024, by restructuring and reduction of a proposed 30 positions by June 2024.
