Marion County Schools is among 21 counties in WV who have received the "Met All Requirements" designation from the West Virginia Department of Education in its annual report of county performance. The full 2024 County Approval Status and Accreditation Report from the Office of Accountability was presented to the West Virginia Board of Education this week and is available at 2024 County Approval Status and Accreditation Report.
First, each county in WV is reviewed in the following County Operational Effectiveness Indicators of Efficiency: Career Technical Education, Child Nutrition, County Board of Education member Effectiveness, ESEA Programs, Facilities, Finance, Personnel, Special Education, State Required Data Collections, Transportation, and Universal Pre-K Readiness. These 21 districts receiving "Met All Requirements" in all indicators include:

Doddridge County Schools
Fayette County Schools
Gilmer County Schools
Hardy County Schools
Harrison County Schools
Jackson County Schools
Marion County Schools
Marshall County Schools

Next, counties and charter schools are reviewed for student achievement as outlined by their Balanced Scorecard Indicators in English Language Arts Achievement, Math Achievement, progress in ELA and Math, English Learners progress, Attendance, Behavior, Graduation Rate, On-Track to Graduate and Post-Secondary Achievement. These results are also included in the report. Marion County Schools is "On Watch" for English Learners, which means that it is the first year that the county has not met the indicator established by the State for progress among English Learners, which includes students who have a first language other than English.
We are extremely proud of our hard-working teams in Marion County. Without them, these distinctions on the 2024 Report would not be possible.
Sincerely,
Dr. Donna Heston, Superintendent
