Marion County Schools is a proud participant in the GameChanger initiative, an opioid and substance misuse prevention program born in West Virginia. WV GameChanger works in collaboration with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Marion County Schools, with support from the Marion County Commission, employs GameChanger coaches in the North Marion and Fairmont Senior feeder areas. North Marion High School was one of the original pilot schools of the GameChanger initiative in West Virginia. Learn more about GameChanger.
In collaboration with GameChanger, Marion County Schools participated in a combined effort to share the GameChanger-produced film, You Have What It Takes, with students in grades 3-5 today. WVU Basketball Alumni and GameChanger Director of Education and Community Development Meg Bulger as well as WV native Jennifer Garner appear in the film with students from throughout West Virginia. Please check with your child for GameChanger coloring books that will be sent home from participating Marion County Schools. We encourage families to view the film, You Have What It Takes, with your child and continue the discussions from the film at home as well.
This is the second film of its kind produced by GameChanger. Last year, students from all high schools in Marion County Schools participated in a viewing of One Pill Can Kill at Fairmont State University.
We thank our families and communities for working in collaboration with Marion County Schools to inform others about opioid and substance misuse.
Sincerely,
Dr. Donna Heston, Superintendent
