Update as of 3:28 PM: WVDE has just been notified that the maintenance upstream from WVNET has been extended until Wednesday, 6:00pm (36 hours instead of 24 hours as originally stated).
Starting at 6:00 AM on December 19, WV schools may experience suboptimal network performance to the Internet and Internet2 due to an infrastructure upgrade by our upstream provider, Three Rivers Optical Exchange (3ROX), with a scheduled maintenance window of up to 36 hours (time frame has been extended to 6:00 PM). This may have an impact on services provided by WVNET. WVDE recommends rescheduling any significant tasks that are reliant on uninterrupted internet connectivity during this period.
The West Virginia Department of Education has notified all WV schools of the potential for state-wide internet service disruptions for the entire day on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, beginning at 6:00 a.m. and lasting up to 24 hours. The internet service provider for the West Virginia Network expects reduced performance during the maintenance window, including times of complete inaccessibility. The K-12 network is not the only customer impacted, and WVDE hopes the service will only be diminished, but they encourage schools to plan accordingly.
