As we near closer to honoring our veterans on Veteran's Day across the nation this month, Marion County Schools is proud to celebrate the service and commitment of all of our veterans and their families as well.
On September 28, 2021, our Marion County Board of Education passed a resolution to target collaborations with military organizations and provide support for military-connected families. In May 2022, Marion County Schools was recognized by the West Virginia Department of Education as a Purple Star District, one of only nine districts in the entire state at that time This distinction means that 100% of the schools in the district have earned the Purple Star Award. To earn the award, each school hosts a minimum of two military- support activities, develops a localized plan to support military-connected families, and identifies a trained military support contact at the school.
As of May 2024, there are only 16 Purple Star Districts recognized by the West Virginia Department of Education in West Virginia. to learn more about the supports provided and the Purple Star District resources, visit Purple Star Award. Marion County Schools is proud of this distinction and the honor of supporting those who are currently serving in the military as well as those veterans who have and continue to support and sacrifice for all of us in the United States of America.
