4th Grade Estimation Room at MCS Math Field Day today! Over 30 students will earn a spot at the March 26 Regional Math Field Day. The top 3 from each class in grades 4-9 and 2 teams of 5 will represent MC as the best mathematicians in our county there.

2.22.22: It’s Palindrome Days and what a great day to hold MCS Math Field Day! Today, the best of the best in math at each of our schools will compete to advance to regionals to represent MCS. It takes a team. Thank you to the MCS bus operators who deliver time after time too.

In collaboration with the MC Health Department, effective Tuesday, February 22, 2022, masks are optional for students and staff in all MCS schools, busses, and extracurricular events. In January, MCS extended its mask mandate through March 1 when it indicated it would reassess. The mask mandate has been lifted. All other mitigation strategies remain in effect in MCS.

Mrs: Jacquez gave a presentation of the exciting new things coming in the new STEAM Center. The Neuromaker equipment will provide some updated technology for years to come.

Marion County Schools were recognized with the Purple Star Awards. MCS were the second highest of schools in all 55 counties.

Supporting a love of reading for MCS, students at Barnes Learning Center volunteer today by assembling the “Books for Buster” tote bags for students in grades Kindergarten and 1 next month.

Congrats to 3 MCS Juniors who will represent their schools at the WV Student Success Leadership Council: Eleanor Capuder, East Fairmont; Parris Thomas, Fairmont Senior; Trinity Hine, North Marion. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and West Virginia Department of Education convene the council on March 4, 2022.

2022 FOURTH CIRCUIT ESSAY CONTEST: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking submissions for its 2022 essay contest. Students in Grades 9-12 in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia are invited to consider and share their thoughts on the questions "Is the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause sufficient to secure the rights of all citizens, or is the ERA necessary to promote gender equality?" Fairview Elementary students want everyone to know they love to read by participating in their Arctic Challenge reading initiative. It’s another reason why they love their school.

Like employees throughout MCS today, the Barnes Learning Center is diving into meetings and trainings like this one for administering the WV General Summative Assessment. Grades 3-8 will take the WVGSA April 4 - May 27. The SAT is administered to all 11th in WV March 23.

Friday, February 18, 2022 is a Professional Learning Day for MCS as approved in the 2021-22 school calendar. Staff will be in trainings and meetings. Students do not report.

WVU Eureka STEM Camp is an immersive STEM experience for middle school underserved youth interested in hands-on experiments in forensics, chemistry, engineering, computer science, astronomy, and biology. Fairmont Senior High held the annual Black History Month Read-In Feb. 16, organized by Teachers Adrin Fisher and Amanda Johnson. Students read works of their choice from a Black writer, poet, artist, or activist that had personal meaning. Writers ranged from Phillis Wheatley to Maya Angelou to Amanda Gorman to Kendrick Lamar.

Congratulation to Fairmont Senior Poetry Out Loud Winner Ava McMullen. In partnership with the WV Dept. of Arts, Culture, and History, National Endowment for the Arts, and Poetry Foundation, POL encourages the study of great poetry. Over 40 FSHS students participated in the contest. McMullen advances to the State POL competition Mar. 11 to earn a chance go to the Nationals.

Labor of Love and Expertise: From carpentry, to electrical, to masonry work, to demolition, after months of work, Marion County Schools Maintenance Department did it all and is proud to announce the ribbon cutting of MCS STEAM Center on Feb. 25, 2022, for grades 5-8.

Buzz…buzz…buzzin! Cooks, custodians, and administration come together daily to greet students during morning announcements at East Dale Elementary. In a energy-filled mini-broadcast, a cook delivers the lunch menu and special challenge for the day, a custodian submits the morning riddle, and administration give “buzz worthy” shout outs to students for kindness or academic growth.
