Ava McMullen, Fairmont Senior freshman, participated in Poetry Out Loud this past weekend in Charleston. Amanda Walker Johnson, English teacher, “Ava did a great job. She memorized three poems, recited them with a dramatic flair that showed she truly understood the pieces.”



Buster the Bus is Back! He’s visiting students in grades K-1 at Rivesville Elementary School today to spread the love of reading and spread awareness of Bus Safety Transportation Month. Sandy Sarsfield, bus aide, and Dee Gump, bus operator, are spreading smiles with Buster.

3.14 is Pi Day and the cooks at Fairmont Senior are feeding our love of math with pie! March 14 to “celebrate the mathematical constant 3.14 as mathematicians, scientists, and math lovers around the world celebrate Pi Day, a commemoration of the mathematical sign pi.”

Kindergarten teachers from Rivesville visited Heart Junction collaborative childcare as part of our county transition process.

The State Championship of Robotics is being held in Marion County today, hosted by Fairmont State University. Teams from East Fairmont, Fairmont Senior, and North Marion are representing and vying for a State Champion title. 🤖




Buster the Bus visited Blackshere Elementary today to spread the joy of reading to students in K-1 as a collaboration of Title I and the Transportation Department during Bus Safety Month.

Energy, Environment, and Excitement Camp (“E3”) is a fully-funded camp for underrepresented minority students. The 1 week camp for rising 8th and 9th graders includes classwork, outdoor activities, interactions with faculty, industry partners, and current students to introduce underrepresented minority students to college majors in Natural Resources/Energy and careers in the natural resources/energy industries. It’s a great day for Marion County as both the North Marion and Fairmont Senior Girls’ Basketball teams handily defeated their opponents today to move on in the State Girls Basketball Tournament. Both play again Friday in Charleston. 🏀

The first sessions of Healthy Grandfamilies classes were held tonight at Blackshere Elementary and South Ridge Church. BC Bank, Farmington Branch, and Mannington Price Cutter provided refreshment at Blackshere this evening for our MCS grandparents raising school-aged children.

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 to raise awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Law enforcement officers of Fairmont City Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Department, along with MC Safe Schools Coordinator Don Neal, met with principals today to share information on identification of and handling of vapes and illegal substances and items in schools.
