Teacher Appreciation Day is May 2, 2023. Start the celebration early by joining with Marion County Schools and thanking a teacher. The National Education Association designated Teacher Appreciation Week 2023 as May 8th-12th. In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt stated to Congress that there needs to be a day when teachers are regularly recognized for their efforts. The first National Teacher Day occurred March 7, 1980.

Over 1,000 students engaged with Marion County Schools and volunteers and collaborative partners in a celebration of literacy this past weekend at the Marion County Literacy Fair. Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback.

Come celebrate literacy with Marion County today until 2 PM at the Marion County Literacy Fair at the Field House. There are read alouds, free books and resources, activities, face painting and ballon art, food trucks, fire trucks, STEAM activities, and student art displays.

Marion County Schools is proud to be part of a collaboration with Disability Action Center that brought Dr. Nancy Massara and her daughter to Marion County today to talk with staff at DAC and NMHS and FSHS peer helpers.

Yesterday, students of North Marion High School volunteered to line the entrance and sidewalks of the campus with American Flags for Military Signing Day. Today, Connor Duncan stops to ensure the American Flags remain upright and respected after the rain.

As their annual community service project, the Humane Society Club at East Fairmont Middle School presented an $8000.00 check to Jonna Spadafore,  Director of the Marion County Humane Society No Kill Shelter.  Mrs. Skarzinski, who is the club sponsor, along with students, staff and administration, have spearheaded funding drives for the shelter that have netted a total of $26,765 since 2015.

North Marion Military Signing Day was special for these students, who have committed to service in the US Armed Forces. North Marion Graduate of 2006, Captain Wikle, served as guest speaker.

The North feeder area schools brought their best today to display at the Marion County Literacy Fair this Saturday, April 29, 10-2.

“BEE-cause”… WE Appreciate Your Service! To wrap up a month of honoring Military Families, East Dale School Learning Community supported a snack drive to “fuel” the National Guard Armory during their May Drill Weekend. Amelia DeVault presented Thank You Letters to the Guard.

Mrs. Walters’s English 9 at Fairmont Senior studied Greek and Roman mythology in preparation to read The Odyssey. Students practiced research, summarization, citation, and presentation skills to create the complicated family tree of Mt. Olympus and take their own space odyssey.

Committing to something bigger than one's self. At Military Signing Day at Fairmont Senior today Jacob Powell signs with Army National Guard, Ian Holbert signs with US Navy. Master Sergeant Lougherty serves as the guest speaker from the US Army.

Mountaineer Food Bank and Connecting Link served nearly 300 families today at Palantine Park. North Marion area is June 30.
